Support MDP United

by Allison

Like sports? How about food? One of 451 Press’ own bloggers, Dominick Evans at All Sports Report, is participating in a blog-a-thon and wants sponsors and readers. Also participating is his partner, Ashtyn Evans, will also be participating. You can find her blog at Watching Food TV.

Read on to find out how it works. Muscular Dystrophy is a medical conditions that affects thousands of people, including Dominick himself. If you can’t give money, at least stop by on that day to leave comments of support!

Burton, Michigan – On September 7-8, 2007, Muscular Dystrophy Patients United is hosting their first official online fundraiser, the MDP United Blog-a-Thon. Participants who wish to be a part of the Blog-a-Thon need to have a place to write somewhere online. This can be a Myspace Blog, Blogger type of Setup, Wordpress, Live Journal or even on their Personal Website. On the blog (we will refer to the aforementioned Blog types simply as the blog from now on) participants choose to post once per hour during the Blog-a-Thon.

The rules for the Blog-a-Thon are simple and are as follows.
Interested parties need to email MDP United administrators at info@mdp-united.org to let them know who is participating.

Interested parties can download the Blog-a-Thon sponsor sheet here. It is the job of the participant to get pledges for each hour they post during the Blog-a-Thon. Sponsors can bid any amount from cents per post to dollars per post.

If participants have multiple blogs, they can post on each of them and count each blog towards their overall post count. They must let their sponsors know how many blogs they have. Sponsors can agree to pay for all posts on every blog or choose to pay for posts on just one blog.

Each blog can only count one post per hour. So, if a participant has three blogs then they can be paid for up to three posts per hour. Blog posts can be as short or as long as the blogger wishes. The timestamp will provide proof of the hours the blogger has posted. Note: Those posting on their personal website will need to post the time they finish each post (look at a clock) and list that time to show how often they posted.

The Blog-a-Thon will start at 8:00 PM EST (5:00 PM PST) on Friday, September 7, 2007. It will end at 8:00 PM EST (5:00 PM PST) on Saturday, September 8, 2007. Bloggers must post all their blog posts between those hours. A blogger with one blog has the chance to make up to 24 posts (though most may at least take a few hours to sleep). Likewise, a blogger with three blogs can make up to 72 posts.

Bloggers can get as many sponsors as they wish. They can be from any place in the world. All money will be used to help provide services for patients of MDP United. Once the Blog-a-Thon is over, money can be sent via Paypal to MDP United’s account. This allows people to pay by check, credit card, or bank account from anywhere in the world.

Muscular Dystrophy Patients United is a new organization with big goals towards helping those with Muscular Dystrophy. The goal is provide equipment, transportation, modifications, and other services that insurance and other organizations have either denied or cannot pay for because it is not their primary purpose. The brainchild of a 26 year old with SMA III, MDP United is run by Sylvia Schanick and a Board of Directors. The spokesperson for the organization is Dominick Evans, the founder, who knows what its like to have needs denied by insurance, and wants to make sure no one goes through what he has had to, to even get a much needed wheelchair.
