Happy Halloween!
I wrote a post awhile back about how I don’t particularly agree with people who refuse to celebrate Halloween based on religious reasons. Halloween is a great fall tradition that has very Christian roots. Google it if you don’t believe me.
However, I do understand how some people could still feel a little queasy at the thought of their child running around as a devil. Dressing up is fun and potentially harmless, but if you don’t want you child to be “evil,” here are some quick alternatives to witches and monsters that you can throw together and still allow your child to participate in the fun tonight:
-Dress in jeans and a tee shirt. Scotch tape smarties (the candy) to your jeans. Go as smarty pants.
-Wear all black and tape socks and dryer sheets to yourself. Tease your hair. Go as static cling.
-Wear an old bathrobe and slippers. Pin your hair up in a towel. Put green makeup on your face (or use a real facial mask). Go as a spa queen.
-Wear brown and wrap yourself in tin foil. Go as a baked potato.
There are countless other non-”evil” costumes you can think up as well. This year, my boyfriend and I went as the queen of hearts and the mad hatter. Costumes worn by other friends this year and in the past: fairy, race car driver, rag doll, bag of jelly beans, disney princess, soldier, angel, strawberry shortcake, superhero, girl/boy scout, beauty queen, cowboy/girl, santa’s elf, rockstar…the list goes on and on.
You don’t have to be dracula or satan to have fun tonight. Be safe!

i took the time and read about your opinion about hallowwen and how dont understand why christian wont allow their children to go out and celebrate this occasion. well first, i like to state that why should we celebrate “the day of the dead”?when we come to celebrate a holiday, we celebrate with joy and love. now how can you celebrate hallowwen with joy and love? you cant. the devil dresses up hallowwen to make many believers and non-belivers alike to think that its innocent and fun. but behind the scenes, the reality is, its the devils way. as a christian mother what i do is…for trick-or-treaters i hand out candy and a tract(tract ~ is a flyer about the word of god) and for my children so they dont feel left out in the world i have them participate in a church gathering for that day. where they can dress up as one of the animals from noah’s ark and do a play there. not only does that keep my child safe from this cruel word but im also instilling the word of god in my children. therefore, they do not lack but gain.
hope i painted a clearer picture…god bless

Personally, I think there can be a lot of joy and love celbrated with Halloween. This year, we had a small party and I baked all sorts of cute Haloween goodies for my friends. Yes, we dressed up…but I think that it was a time for fellowship just as much as a Christmas party can be.
Halloween is only evil if you make it that way.
I do like your suggestion about getting the kids involved through church. Our congregation has a fall festival every year around Halloween, including a hay ride and hot chocolate. It’s a great way to celebrate the season!

Thank you for your comment. I think thats great that you enjoyed your small party and the goodies that you made. But, truth is did you make that celebration for the glory of God, to celebrate him and thanking him for the friends you had that day and the amazing treats you made? Or did you do all that and just celebrated Halloween alone? If you chose to go ahead with Halloween , why not give the happiness to God and not the Celebration of the Dead? Just something to think about it.
Before you make a comment…I bet your thinking,”But I’m not celebrating the Dead.” Reality is, Halloween is considered, no matter which way you paint it, is the day of the dead.
Many Blessings, your sister in Christ,
Christine
