Sandwiches
Panara, a cute little sandwich shop where I like to hang out and do work, recently sued because a Mexican restaurant moved into the same mall. (read full story here )
Why? Well, apparently there’s a clause in their contract with the mall that no other sandwich shop can move into the mall. Panara sued because, according to them, a burrito is a sandwich. A judge basically ruled that Panara was just being dumb and that the Mexican restaurant could stay.
This may all same a little ridiculous, but it teaches a valuable lesson: Love thy neighbors. Panara is a multi-million dollar company, and losing a few bucks because some people want to eat burritos should not be the basis for a ruined relationship with other businesses in the area.
Love thy neighbor applies to everyone, people and businesses, and I think what it really comes down to is greed. My challenge to you is to take a lesson from the silly burrito battle and realize we must always keep our greed in check. Healthy competition is always great, but you have to draw the line somewhere, and I draw it at lunchtime snacks.
Panara, sandwich, Love thy neighbor, greed, competition
