Touching American Idol Moment

by

I’m not a huge American Idol fan, but last night my boyfriend and I turned it on to watch some hilariously bad contestants try to make it to Hollywood. And they were bad.

But there was one that just pulled on everyone’s heart strings. I’m blogging about it now, after a comment I got earlier this week from fellow 451 blogger Jennifer, who thanked me for my post on love in the Bible, as it was a reminder to her to be thankful for the loved ones in her life.

I think that’s a reminder we all need from time to time. God blesses us with people that truly love and care about us.

But anyway, on to American Idol.

The contestant in question was an older man…quite older. The cut off for AI is 28 years old, and he was 64. A bit too old. He came with signitures in hand–a petition that he should be able to try out.

He didn’t ever really want to be on the show. This project came about because his wife fell ill with cancer, and the petition and his singing kept her spirits high. She died two days before the tryouts, and he sang for her.

The judges let him audition (although he was not truly in the running for a Hollywood spot) and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. He had a beautiful voice, and I know his wife is looking down on him now with a smile. As he said after the audition, regardless of the competition, he is this season’s winner.
