Your Favorite Prayer

by Allison

From time to time, I like to post prayers on this blog, but today I’m turning the tables–what’s your favorite prayer? From the ones we said as a child with our mothers to the ones we say to ourselves when upset, prayers can have the power to make us feel comfortable and at home. My favorite prayer is the serenity prayer, which has been adapted by AA, but which I use in my life, even though I’m not an alcoholic.

God,
Grant me the serenity to accept the things that I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.

Also noteworthy? The prayer we say at before dinner at the Girl Scout Camp where I work, sung to the tune of the Addams family:

Du-du-du-du *snap snap*
du-du-du-du *snap snap*
du-du-du-du
du-du-du-du
du-du-du-du *snap snap*

We thank the Lord for givin’
The food we need for livin’
The reason why eat it
Is ’cause we really need it

du-du-du-du *snap* Sweet!
du-du-du-du *snap* Neat!
du-du-du-du
du-du-du-du
du-du-du-du Let’s eat!

Ah, that brings back the memories!

What are your favorite prayers?
